Adventures in Estes Part 2

While in Estes, most of our time was spent hiking and hanging out at our huge cabin in the woods. But we took in a few touristy things too. Casey and I joked that we "ate" our souveniers. We aren't big tourist trap fans and the shops in Estes were pretty pricey in our opinion. We did splurge on some sweet treats though. We potlucked all of our meals, so we didn't feel too bad about paying the premium for ice cream cones, not only once, but twice!

We also stopped twice in the little town of Glen Haven that was half-way between Estes Park and our cabin. They have the.best.cinnamon.rolls.EVER. I would highly recommend looking them up if you're ever in the area!! The cherry cobbler wasn't bad either. (Yes, I have a mouthful of sweet teeth, not just one!)

So I had mentioned there was more to the hot tub story in my last post. Well the kiddos took full possession of the hot tub all three evenings. Since there was no swimming pool, it was the next best thing. By the morning of day three it wasn't looking too pretty. We should have taken that as a warning sign.

On our way home I got a call from our friends from Colorado that had just come to visit us for the last evening. Their kiddos had rashes on their hands and feet. Over the next two days, reports were flying around amongst all of the families and after several of the kiddos went to the doctor the diagnoses was: folicilitis. Hot tub rash. GROSS!!!

Thank goodness it wasn't something worse and it healed pretty quickly. My kids were banned from swimming for a week. Kyndal and Corbin were both victims. Kennedy, who only sat on the side of the tub didn't get it, but she did get a terrible case of what was diagnosed as hives on her hands and feet. Good thing they had a lot of fun getting those battle wounds!!

Even though the rash wasn't the kind of souvenier we would have chosen to take home, we had a great trip. The kids traveled very well considering how many miles we drove.

Friday afternoon after spending the morning hiking with the group and eating lunch, our family ventured into town by ourselves. This huge elk (above) was sitting in front of a store, literally in the middle of town!
We saw these huge slides (at Fun City) driving down the street and decided to check it out.
Going down! Kennedy was so excited, she was the first to run to the top, plopped down on her sack and was ready to go. Halfway down she was bawling and trying to stop, poor thing!
They were super slick!
Next up, a little putt-putt!
Our little guy, what a trooper!
On the way back to the cabin, we pulled off to explore at McGregor Ranch. We loved this little adventure. We could have paid to take the tour, but instead decided to explore on our own. It was our lucky day, the sweet lady below asked if our kids could help feed the chickens. She proceeded to give us a full tour of the ranch and told us the whole history of it. We were so appreciative!
On Saturday, once again after a morning of hiking, we headed back to town. We had a blast on the bumper boats and racecars.
We lost Corbin for a few minutes right before getting on the bumper boats. SUPER scary!!
Kyndal had a blast getting soaked!
Kennedy wanted nothing to do with getting soaked. She was not happy when she got squirted on the side.
Corbin and I took a spin around the track!

We will most definitely be going back to Estes!
